REINSTATEMENT OF EMPLOYEES
TIMARU*HARBOUR BOARD CASE
Reinstatement of the two employees, Ernest Joseph Hannam and Donald MacRitchie. who were dismissed by the Timaru Harbour Board on August 6. has been ordered by the chairman of an Industrial Tribunal set up under the Strikes and Lockout Emergency Regulations, 1939 (Mr A. B. Rigg), in a reserved decision. As there was no claim for financial loss, Mr Rigg made no order in respect of the payment of wages during the period the men were not employed by the board. An inquiry into the dismissal of the two men was held at Timaru on September 30 by the tribunal, which had been set up for the purpose. As the tribunal failed to agree upon the tefrms of settlement of the dispute, decision was left to the chairman. In his decision, Mr Rigg said that the Timaru Harbour Board should forthwith reinstate the two dismissed Workers, but their work should not necessarily be confined to the duties coming within the scope of the harbourmaster’s department.
