FIFTH TRAINING COLLEGE
PROGRESS TOWARDS ESTABLISHMENT
(P.A.) ' .WELLINGTON, October 7. “Quite good progress has been made towards the establishment of a further teachers’ training college,” sai<£ the Minister of Education (Mr H. G. R. Mason), speaking to the education vote in the House of Representatives this evening. “Plans being formed should enable us to give a practical turn to the matter at a very early date.”
The subject was raised by Mr M. H. Oram (Opposition, Manawatu), who said it was necessary that consideration should be given to the establishment of a fifth training college. He said there was a need for more attention to rural education and he hoped that the new training college would be established in conjunction with one of the agricultural colleges. Mr Mason said the provision of an additional college would make it possible to train the additional teachers required to reduce the size of classes and meet other needs.
