BUS AND TRUCK COLLIDE
SEVEN PASSENGERS INJURED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 7. Seven passengers were injured, one seriously, when a Railway Road Services bus was in collision with a motor-truck on Seaview road, Petone, this afternoon. One side of the bus, which was crowded with workers from factories at Gracefield, was ripped out by the leading edge of the tray of the truck. The seven passengers taken to the Hutt Hospital were: John Ogilvie, a factory employee, compound fracture of the right leg, fracture of the left leg, abrasions to the face, and shock. Frederick of Oriental street, Petone, fractured nose. —. Dickson, of Mitchell street, Petone, severe laceration of one ear. N. B. Jeff coate, of Lower Hutt, laceration to the forehead. David Dawson, of Union street, Petone, injuries to both ankles. T. H. Webster, of 9 Nelson street, Petone, laceration to the chin and a finger. J. V. Lanceley, of Reynolds street, Taita, laceration of a finger. The five last named were treated at the hospital and sent to their homes. The collision occurred about 30 yards on the Eastbourne side of the intersection of Seaview road, and Randwick road. The bus, which had just picked up a load of passengers, was travelling toward Petone, and the truck, which belongs to the Acetone Welding Company, was being driven to the company’s garage further down Seaview road. The leading edge of the truck ripped out all the seats down the off side of the bus and strewed them round the inside. The bus was driven by Mr George Manson, of Petone. The driver of the truck was Mr Lewis Richard Boylan, of Thorndon quay, Wellington. Neither the driver of the truck nor his passenger was injured, but the bus driver was slightly shaken. •
PASSENGER IN TAXI INJURED
When the brakes of the taxi in which he was travelling through the city last evening were applied suddenly, J. Bain, of 211 Bridge street, Nelson, and a guest at McKendry’s Hotel, Christchurch, was thrown forward on to the windscreen, suffering injuries to his head. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital about 10.30 p.m., and his condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory.
