A.T.C. FLYING TRAINING
PAYMENT TO AERO CLUBS
ANNOUNCEMENT BY MR JONES
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, October 7. Provision for the training of up to 150 Air Training Corps members by aero clubs was announcedto-day by the Minister in charge of the Air Department (Mr F. Jones). Mr Jones said the trainees would be selected by the Royal New Zealand Air Force and would be required to pass the necessary medical examination and to obtain the consent of their parents before starting their training. Each trainee would have to give an undertaking that he would remain a member of the Air Training Corps until such time as the Air Force released him, the Minister said. Instruction would be given by instructors who had passed an approved instructors’ course. Up to 30 hours’ training would be provided for each trainee and would be paid for by the Government at the rate of £4 an hour for dual training and £3 10s an hour for solo training. Mr Jonqs also announced that Cabinet had approved of the gift of 42 Tiger Moth aircraft to aero clubs. He said the aircraft were surplus to the requirements of the Air Force. Distribution to clubs would be made through the Rnyal New Zealand Aero Clubk
