Mr H. D. T. Williamson, inspector of the Bank of Australasia for New Zealand, has been appointed a chief inspector of the bank, and will leave to take up his new appointment in Melbourne in about two months’ time. Mr H. C. Thomas, manager of the Auckland branch of the bank, has been appointed to succeed Mr Williamson. Mr Herbert Johnson, who is at present acting as sub-manager in Melbourne, has been appointed manager of the Auckland branch. —(P.A.)

The editor of the medical section of the official New Zealand war history. Dr. T. D. M. Stout, of Wellington, arrived at Auckland yesterday by British Pacific Sky master from Vancouver, after attending a conference of the liaison committee at Ottawa to discuss the preparation of the Commonwealth and United States war medical histories. Britain, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and the United. States were also represented at the conference.—(P.A.)

A distinguished Methodist preacher and social worker, the Rev. C. Irving Benson, of Melbourne, arrived in Wellington by the Wahine yesterday on an official visit to Methodist Churches in New Zealand. Mr Benson is superintendent minister of Wesley Church, Melbourne. He is also president of the trustees of the Melbourne Library and chairman of the Victorian Libraries’ Board. Mr Benson intends to make a study of New Zealand libraries. He will preach at all the main centres.— (PA.)

The Rev. W. S. Southward, vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Avonside, has been appointed secretary of the New Zealand Anglican Board of Missions, Wellington. He will take up his new duties in the first week in February. Mr Southward was ordained deacon in 1928 and priest in 1929, and was a curate in St. Mary’s Parish, Timaru, between 1928 and 1932. He was vicar of Linwood from 1932 to 1938, and has been vicar of Avonside since 1938.

The Dunedin Presbytery last evening nominated the Rev. W. A. Stevely, Minister of the First Church of Otago, Dunedin, as Moderator-designate of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand for 1948. Mr Stevely was ordained in 1911 and came to New Zealand 17 years agq after service in Scotland and Australia. The Presbytery expressed the view that it would be appropriate for a Dunedin minister to be Moderator during the Otago centennial year.—(P.A.) Mr Wilfred Voce (director of the New Zealand Pottery and Ceramic Research Association) left Christchurch last evening for the North Island after a two weeks’ tour of Canterbury, where he examined deposits of raw materials used in ceramics, visited potteries, and conferred with manufacturers about various schemes for the improvement of their products. Mr Voce, who is one of Great Britain’s leading authorities on ceramic research, arrived in New Zealand a few months ago. During the next few weeks he will make a tour of pottery producing centres around Auckland, Whangarei and Thames. Mr C. H. J. Abbott, of Christchurch, will leave for London on Thursday to continue his studies at the Royal School of Music.
