FUND FOR FOOD FOB BRITAIN
MANNEQUIN PARADE HELD
That New Zealand should help Britain by supporting British industries was suggested by Mrs J. Mowbray Tripp when she officially opened the mannequin parade held yesterday at the D.LC. in aid of the food for Britain fund of the Young Contingent of the Victoria League. Many of the frocks and suits shown were made of British cotton.
The garments were mainly suitable for holiday and beach wear. Crisply tailored linen play suits contrasted effectively with gathered and frilled floral frocks. Up-to-the-minute bathing suits in a water repellant material were an interesting feature of the display, and the array of sun hats showed how many and varied interpretations of the millinery theme are possible to the enterprising designer. Here the influence of Chinese and Mexican styles was evident. Many of the hats had fringed arid tasselled brims, and high peaked crowns. The mannequins who so ably displayed the garments were all members of the Young Contingent of the Victoria League, except Michal Walker, who almost stole the show with her modelling of children’s wear. Those taking part included Mesdames W. Seldon. E. Williams, W. Walker, and Misses Joan Preston, Rosemary Cuningham. Adrienne Hill, Belinda Williams, Felicity Cracroft Wilson, Mama Stevens. Bobby McKenzie, and Sylvia Scott. The compere was Miss Diana Craig. During the afternoon songs were sung by Mr Thomas E. West and members of the D.I.C. chorus, which included Misses S. Goulden, M. Corey, O. Megson. M. JShaw, L. Whitlow, and N. Winskill.
