TRIBUTE TO MR ADAM HAMILTON
LONG SERVICE TO WALLACE “The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL, October 4. “Doubtless many people throughout New Zealand have wondered, aqd are still wondering, why the retirement of Mr Adam Hamilton from politics was not marked by some appropriate acknowledgement of services rendered,” • said Mr E. A. Cameron, oi Wendonside, chairman of the Wallace electorate committee of the National Party today. “This has not been because of any • lack of appreciation or effort on the part of his many friends; but rather to the contention of Mr Hamilton himself that he was happy in giving service and that any such action was unnecessary. In this his wishes must be respected. Yet can anyone deny- us the right of publicly saving ‘thank you’ for what he has done? 1 ’ Few men- had given better service than Mr Hamilton, and where Southland concerned that service was inspired by a solid faith in the possibilities of the province, said Mr Cameron. Over all Mr Hamilton had served 24 years as member for Wallace, four years in the Coalition Ministry, five years in the War Cabinet, and four years as leader of the National Party. “Surely that is a worthy record of service and one which deserves the thanks of all and which should inspire the youth of this province.” said' Mr Cameron. “And these thanks and appreciation are not lacking. Many today in the Wallace electorate and in the wider national field regret that they have not had the opportunity of publicly saying thank you’ for some personal service rendered, or of expressing appreciation of service given in some office that only a man of abil- . Ity and sound judgment can fill ”
