PUBLIC SHOCKED
DELAY IN FINDING BODY
From Our Own Reporter WELLINGTON, October 6, Few occurrences in recent years have so shocked the people of Wellington as the finding of the body of 17-year-old Marie West within easy walking distance of her own home and only a few minutes from Courtenay place. It is likely that questions ■will be asked in the House of Representatives why a closer search was pot made of the surrounding scrub country on the lower slopes of Mount Victoria.
Indignation has been expressed at published reports that the girl might nave left home of her own accord. Her parents, Mr and Mrs W. G. West, had always contended that she had been a victim of foul play and said that she was not the type df girl to run away from home. To-day a party of police was busy clearing the area where the body was found and taking samples of soil for subsequent analysis.
