RULES FOR CONTEST
“A RACE IN NAME ONLY” Proposed rules for the South Island air reliability contest were presented at a meeting of the committee last evening by Mr A. M. Harvie. The report was received, and it was decided to send a copy of the draft to all aero clubs, and to invite further suggestions for the running of the contest.
The contest would be a race in name only, judgment being made on ability to keep to schedule, general airmanship, and precision flying, said the report. The committee would be the sole judge of the weather conditions, alterations to the course and‘the cancellation or postponement of the event. The first leg of the course which would take the first day, would be from Harewood to Ashburton, Taieri, Invercargill, Taieri, Timaru, and back to Harewood. The route on the second day would be Harewood-Clarence-Omaka-Nelson (by way of Picton)-Clarence (by way of Omaka ano Cape Campbell)-Harewood. To be eligible to compete, pilots would have tq hold A endorsed or B civil licences, and a passenger, observer or second-pilot could be carxied, continued the report. Entries
