STOCK SALES
DUVAUCHELLE There was an entry of about 250 head of cattle at the monthly stock sale at Duvauchelle on Friday, about 100 being in the fat pens. The yarding generally was of high quality,. and the sale was a very satisfactory one. The high prices paid for beef cattle at Addington were repeated at the sale, and prices advanced considerably compared with those received the previous month. There was keen bidding for beasts in good condition. No heavy bullocks were offered. The yarding of springers was a small one, and the quality was indifferent. The yarding of store cattle consisted mainly of store cows arid heifers, which sold remarkably well, and a good clearance was made.
The range of values was as follows: Extra prime steers, £25 10s to £25 15s; prime steers, £l9 2s 6d to £2O 15s; lightweight steers,, £l7; extra prime heifers, £lB to £2l 15s; prime heifers, £l5 5s to £l6 15s; light-weight heifers, £l3; extra prime cows, £l6 15s to £lB 10s; prime cows, £l3 17s 6d to £l5 17s 6d; lightweight cows, £l2 12s 6d to £l3 15s: springing heifers, £lO 10s to £l4; spring cows, to £lO ss, twq-year-old heifers, £7 to £9 10s; store heifers, £7 15s to £l2; store cows, £6 to £lO 15s; cull cows, £4 2s 6d.
PLEASANT POINT "The Press" Special Service TIMARU, October 6. At the Pleasant Point sale to-day. 63 head of fat cattle came forward, as against 80 two weeks ago. Op the whole quality was not as good, .but competition was keen and values showed a slight improvement on recent values. The big improvement in the feed situation was reflected in the sale of the few store cattle, values hardening for all classes. Prime heavy steers made £22 to £24 17s 6d; light to medium, £l4 17s 6d to £2O; prime heavy heifers, £l3 to £l6 2s 6d; light to medium. £9 to £l2 7s 6d; prime heavy cows. £l3 2s 6d to £l7 7s 6d; light to medium, £ll to £l2 ss; yearling steers and heifers, to £lO 2s 6d; three-vear steers and heifers, £l4 to £l6 10s; best dairy cows. £l4 to £l6 10s; cows with runner calves, to £23 17s 6d.
