PRICE OF BEER
Sir, —Once more the long-suffering public are being socked, and we in Glenavy have been in the last week victims of an increase of Id a glass on our beer, with no alteration in the size of the measure being served during past years. Could you let us in Glenavy know if this increase is allowable at this stage under , price fixation, and the measure we can demand?—Yours, etc., i “JOHN HOP.” Glenavy, September 29, 1947. [“Hotelkeepers are allowed to charge up to 7d a glass, but they are not permitted to raise the price above 7d unless the consent of the Price Tribunal is first obtained,” said the district officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Christchurch, when asked to comment on this letter. He could not say whether the increase referred to by the correspondent was allowable unless he knew the previous price.]
