CRICKET
OPENING PRACTICES HELD Cricket clubs, held their opening on Saturday afternoon, and although tne grounds were very soft after the recem heavy rain, some valuable practice was carried out. There were good musters ot players at Hagley oval, where West Christchurch, Riccarton, St. Albans, and Old Boys practised. Trial matches took place, and there was no net practice on this ground. t Among the Riccarton players was R. H. Stott, the New Zealand reoresentative who played for West Old Boys last season. Lancaster Park held its practice on the back ground at Lancaster Park, and Old Collegians made its first use of its new pavilion at Elmwood Park. All the wickets on this ground were in good order, and were much drier than on most other grounds. Sydenham had many players al practice, and the club seems assured of another very successful season. z\t Lancaster Park. East Christchurch, a strong side last year, also had a good muster. It is expected that competition matches in all grades will begin next Saturday.
