SCOUT DEN OPENED
COSSGROVE (WOOLSTON) CREW The Cossgrove Scout Crew (Woolston) was favoured with fine weather on Saturday for the official opening of the rover scout den. Included among parents and friends present was a former Dominion Rover Scout Commissioner (Sir Robert Clark-Hall) and the Rev. H. G. Norris, vicdr of Woolston.
Sir Robert Clark-Hall inspected cubs, scouts, and rovers, speaking to many of them individually, and complimenting them on their excellent turn-out. He officially declared the new den open and remarked that it was an advantage for a group to have its own meeting place. He congratulated rover leader J. Ede for his work id assisting to establish the new den, and presented him with his rover leader’s warrant Other awards presented were four first-class scout certificates and badges to patrol leaders G. Cox, R. Hall, D. Anderson, and L. Hobson. In the evening the group celebrated its second birthday party at a social and dance. Good wishes to the crew for the future were extended by Mr J. Mathison, M.P., who was once a scout in Scotland. The movement was of great benefit to boys, he said, and he considered that his association with scouts had been of considerable assistance to him later when he entered public life.
