Prosecuting counsel (Mr Maxwell Turner) sai<| that when Rubowitz was last seen he was being chased by a

man and was hustled into a car. During the chase the man dropped a hat. in the sweat band of which the letters “Far-an” were written. The police superintendent, who had arranged three identification parades, gave evidence that none of those taking >art recognised , Captain Farran as Rubowitz’s assailant. He added that rteither were the 10 members of Captain Farran’s patrol recognised as being meiqbers of the patrol which previous witnesses said* had arrested Rubowitz on the night of May 6. Sergeant Faulkner, a member of Captain Farran’s patrol, said he accompanied Captain Farran to Syria. He added that Captain Farran told him he was going there because “I have been let down.” Sergeant Faulkner said that the trip to Syria was made after the hat with initials in the band had been found and wild rumours about Captain Farran had begun to circulate.
