CANTERBURY TITLES DECIDED The Canterbury provincial fencing championships, which concluded this week, resulted as follows: Men’s Teams’ Event.—Canterbury University College 1, Christchurch Swords Club 2, Christchurch Boys’ High School 3. Women’s Teams’ Event.—Christchurch Swords Club 1, Canterbury University College 2. Men’s Individual Foil Championship.—W. S. Elsom (Christchurch Swords Club) 1, A. Simmance (Christchurch Boys’ High School) 2. C. McNie (Christchurch Swords Club) 3. The following teams will represent Canterbury at the national championships, which will take place in Christchurch from October 24 to October 27:—Women’s team: O. Jekyll (captain), J. Schmidt, J. Hanna. E. McEiwee, all of whom are members of the Christchurch Swords Club. M. F. Andrews, who won the Women’s Dominion championship at Auckland last year, has retired from competitive fencing, but will act as emergency for the Canterbury women’s team. The men’s team will be: W. S. Elsom, L. T. Jones, D. Crosbie (Christchurch Swords Club). A. Simmance (Christchurch Boys’ High School), with A. G. T. Wane (Canterbury University College) as emergency.
