Although there was a wide ignorance of New Zealand and itg affairs and mode of life' throughout the United States, the name New Zealand was an open sesame in all parts of the country, and hospitality was skewered on New Zealanders "in return for the kindness shown to men of the American forces who were in the Dominion during the war, said Mr R. A. Blampied, of Nelson, who has returned from a tour through the United States. In one restaurant he visited the owner would not accept payment for a meal, saying that he would not dream of charging anyone who came from a country which had been so good to the American forces.
