GRANDSTAND AT ENGLISH PARK NEED FOR REPAIRS DISCUSSED As the grandstand at English Park was in a “pretty bad state of repair,” the association should see if the Christchurch City Council could get some Army buildings, or take some othfer steps to improve facilities, said Mr J. E. Jones (chairman), at a meeting of the Canterbury Football Association, when a letter on the arrangements for broadcasting from the park was received. “Certainly something will have to be done to the stand in the very near future, or it will be blown over in a gale one of these days,” said Mr Jones. The letter, which was written by Mr L. N. Billcliff, the football commentator, made several suggestions for a broadcasting box. The minimum size should be 6ft x 4ft, and the building should be roofed and contain shelves, a stool, and a chair, he said.

Mr E. Billcliff said that the broadcasting box might also be used as a storeroom for nets and flags. Mr Jones was authorised to confer with Mr M. J, Barnett, superintendent of parks and reserves, on the subject. Western, with 112 points, had won the McAnaulty Cup, it was reported. Nomads (109 points) were the runners-up. The chairman welcomed Mr K. Johnston, a delegate from the Nomads Club, stating that he did not know of a man who worked harder for the game than Mr Johnston.
