POLICE STATION BLOWN UP
Terrorist Action In Haifa EIGHT DEAD; 47 INJURED
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 12 a.m.) JERUSALEM, Sept. 29. It is officially annbunced that an explosion this morning virtually demolished a police station in Haifa. The explosion killed three British policemen, four Arab policemen, and one Arab coffee vendor, seriously injured three British policemen, and' slightly injured 27 other policemen, and 17 Arab civilians. The official announcement adds that a lorry drove to the edge of the barbed wire barricade. The occupants lowered a barrel of explosives and rolled it into the perimeter. The Associated Press says that the explosion shattered the windows of five blocks in the area in which the police station is situated. A bus carrying 40 or 50 passengers was passing the station as the blast occurred. Many of the passengers were injured. The explosion killed the Arab guard who gave the alarm, and falling debris 50 yards away killed an Arab coffee seller. Power and telephones were cut off and a water-main was broken. The police said that the Stem Gang had probably planted the bomb. Four Jews had been detained.
