Viscount Addison, Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations, will meet members of the New Zealand Cabinet in Parliament Buildings this morning.—(P.A.) The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr A. H. Nordmeyer) will visit Christchurch for the opening of the New Zealand Industries Fair on October 24 if his Parliamentary duties permit. The Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) has promised to consider* a request that he should officially open the fair.

The resignation of Mr K. M. Gresson from his position as Dean of the Faculty of Law was received with regret by the Canterbury University College Council yesterday. The chairman (Mr W. C. Colee) said Mr Gresson had given outstanding service to tne college, and his ability had been recognised by his appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court. All at the college wished to congratulate him. The Christchurch City Council last evening passed a resolution congratulating Mr Gresson on his elevation to the Bench.

Judge O. G. Stevens and Judge D. J. Dalglish were sworn in before the Chief Justice (Sir Humphrey O’Leary) yesterday as deputy-judges of the Court of Arbitration.— (P.A.)

Mr T. J. Ryan, of Wellington, has been appointed stationmaster at Christchurch, in place of Mr D. Sword, who retired early this month.

Mr G. E. Wood, Government Statistician, returned to Auckland yesterday from Washington, where he represented New Zealand at a world statistical conference.—(P.A.) Messrs W. N. Seay and A. G. Henderson were elected life members of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association at the annual meeting of the association last evening. Members of the executive committee of the New Zealand Industries Fair entertained Major B. H. Tosswill, staff officer. Area 10, last evening. Major Toss-vill. who will retire from the Army shortly, was thanked for the help he had given the executive, and was presented with a leather travelling bag. His successor, Major I. L. Bonifant. was introduced to the committee.

Councillor S. B. Kershaw, a member of the Riccarton Borough Council, will not seek re-election at the forthcoming municipal elections, according to the Mayor (Mr H. S. S. Kyle). Mr, Kyle referred to Mr Kershaw’s long and valuable service on the council, and expressed his regret that Mr Kershaw would not consider re-election this year. Inspector E. W. Askew, of the Christchurch City Council’s traffic department. was appointed senior patrol officer at the council meeting last evening. •

Mr S. V. Glasgow’s long service to the Canterbury Journalists’ Union was honoured at a gathering of members of the union. A presentation was made by the president (Mr D. W. Bain), who said the union had been well served by Mr Glasgow as president for several years and in other offices. Members regretted that Mr Glasgow’s recent promotion to be chief sub-editor of “The Press” meant that he was no longer a member of the union. A presentation was also made to Mr K. N. McGillivray, who has relinquished the position of secretary of the union. The new secretary (Mr J. L. Laby) was welcomed.
