“ WINNERTAKE-ALL ” TOURNAMENT

(Rec. 9 p.m.) NEW YORK. Sept. 28. With a nine-under-par score of 135, Ben Hogan to-day won the international win-ner-take-all golf tournament organised by the promoter, George S. May. Hogan closed the 36-hole ev-mt with a two-under-par 70. finishing three strokes ahead of Bobby Locke (South Africa). In addition to the 5000 dollars cash prize, Hogan collected 2000 dollars as appearance money, which was guaranteed to each of the eight entrants. Hogan, with 27,310 dollars, now has the largest golf winnings for 1947. Lloyd Mangrum and Jimmy Demaret tied for third place with 139.

c. J. WARD SETS RECORD for amuri course A large number of competitors visited the Amuri golf links for the mens annual tournament held recently. The winner was C. J. Ward (Christ church), with a score of 79. h—wj. Ward s score of 74 in the afternoon was a course record. The previous record was 76 The runner-up was L. H. Davison. 87—171. Other results were:— Best 36 holes net: C. R. Hosking 71 76—147; runner-up, A. R. Ormond. 70. 77 147 Morning medal round: A. R. Orniond, 38. 18—70: C. R. Hosking, 95. 2471. Afternoon medal round: J. Murray. 94 20—74; D. Parker, 92, 18—74. The teams’ match was won by J. Danielson. V. Cldman, C. Cone, and C. R. Hosking. RUSSLEY club A hole-in one was played by R. F Lailerty at the Russley golf course on Sunday during a match round. The hole wrs th° third (121 yards). The following players qualified in the •lub’s championships last Sunday:— Senior grade: J. W.
