Alternative to Hardwood. — The use of bluegum in replacing the jetty at Pleasant Point was advocated by Cr. G. D. Griffiths at last evening’s meeting of the Christchurch City Council. The building controller had refused a permit because of the shortage of hardwood. Cr. Griffiths said bluegum would not Rive the same life as hardwood, but it would have a useful life of 20 years. The council decided to investigate the suggestion.
