LAMBS FOR LOCAL CONSUMPTION
MINIMUM KILLING WEIGHT THIRTY POUNDS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. September 29. Ai. order prohibiting the sale or purchase for slaughter for human consumption in New Zealand or the slaughter for such purpose of lambs of not more than 30 pounds dressed weight was gazetted to-day. The prohibition will apply in the North Island until November 3 and in the South Island until November 24.
The Minister of Agriculture (Mr E. C. Cullen) said the idea had been recommended to the Government by the Aid-to-Britain Council. The recommendation was intended to apply only to lambs slaughtered for human consumption in New Zealand and the gazetted order would therefore not apply to the killing of lambs for export.
