PHILIPPINES AND SPAIN
FRIENDSHIP TREATY CONCLUDED
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) MANILA, Sept 27. The Philippines to-daff signed a treaty of friendship with Spain. The treaty conforms to the general pattern of the Philippines’ pacts with other countries, but there are certain variations made necessary by the fact that Spain is not a member of the United Nations. a , Official circles, av.are of the almost certain adverse international reaction, described the treaty as merely a “routine” step, but President Roxas. at the colourful ceremony at which the document was signed, said: “Spain and the Philippines are standing on a plane of absolute equality, and extend their hands to each other with their hearts in them.”
