EXPRESS TRAIN DELAYED
CARRIAGE DERAILED NEAR oamaru (P.A.) DUNEDIN, September 28. The Dunedin-Christchurch express train on Saturday was delayed for two hours and a half at Waianakarua, 18 mjles south of Oamaru, when one car ¥as derailed and the line was blocked. he mishap, which, it is believed, was caused by the faulty manipulation of points, occurred when the train was being switched to a siding to allow a southbound express train to pass. Passengers for the north were transferred to the south-boqnd train, which returned north, and south-bound passengers were accommodated in the rear portion of the derailed train, which was brought back to Dunedin, arriving at 8.55 p.m.—more than four and a half pours late. The derailed car was only slightly damaged, and the line was cleared early in the evening. The express, which was dye at Christchurch at 7.26 p.m., did not arrive until after 10 o’clock. The departure of the inter-island ferry steamer Hinemoa was delayed until 11.25 p.m. The ship arrived in Wellington yesterday morning at 8.7 o’clock.
