FROM ASHBURTON ON STILTS
MR LUKEY FINDS TRIP SEVERE TEST
“It was pretty tough going, and very slow —I averaged about two miles and a half an hour, and could only do a clip of three miles an hour when fully extended.” said Mr L. G. Lukey. commenting on the 54 mile journey from Ashburton to Christchurch on stilts, which he finished on Saturday afternoon. It was harder than his 462-mile cycle ride from Auckland to Wellington, but he had always believed that it could be done, and had set out to prove it, said Mr Lukey. He fell only once, and then managed to disengage from his stilts and land on his feet.
