From the end of August a start was made with 12 senior Karitane nurses in training to pay home visits with the tutor sister —two at a time. Tne secretary of the Karitane Nurses Bureau reported that 10 candidates were waiting to be interviewed by the selection committee. There were 26 cases on the books for the month, 15 of which were helped through the bureau. There had been 119 telephone calls for assistance. The secretary reported special donations to Violet Day amounting to £79 12s, bringing the total to £Bl4 Ils sd. The Sunday night concert had raised £B2 12s 6d, and the Plunket ball, held on August 7, £686 3s 4d. Congratulations and votes of thanks were passed to the organisers of these functions, and members were urged to consider further ways and means to raise funds for the remainder of the year in order to meet the rising costs of the society.
