GERALDINE RACE MEETING

Sir, —I would like to make a few suggestions to the president of the Geraldine Racing Club. The first is to see at the next meeting that a reasonable supply of race books is printed. On Saturday all the race books were sold out before the first race. Second, the pay-out windows were not marked properly. • Why not put the numbers of the placed horses outside the windows as they do at Riccarton? Third, why was it that K. Hickey’S name was put up on the jockey’s board as riding Royal Flash when C. McDonald actually rode it?—Yours, etc., PUNTER.

September 20, 1947. [The secretary of the Geraldine Racing Club, Mr L. D. McKenzie, replies that the year’s meeting had drawn a record attendance, yet there were several hundred books over, i More race books were sold this year Ithan at the 1946 record meeting. The proposal to put the numbers of the placed horses on the pay-out windows will be referred to the totalisator contractor (Mr H. J. D. James), to be adopted if possible at the October meeting. Apparently, the jockeys board operator made a mistake in hoisting K. Hickey’s name as rider of Royal Flash in the Raukapuka Handicap. This rider rode the horse in the hurdle race only.]
