JAM
Sir, —I read in the paper yesterday of a claim by a girls’ college of holding the jam-eating record, having eaten 6Jlb and therefore beating a Nelson boys’ school. This North Island girls’ school consisting of about 30 pupils, I think, claims that each girl aje in a month by herself 6glb of jam W snacks only. I think this is an absolute disgrace when thousands of people all over the world are dying of starvation daily; and they ought to be thoroughly ashamed and not proud of this disgusting fact. People in England would be overjoyed with one small tin of jam; and had each girl sent 641 b of jam to the starving people who' have done so much for us that would be a record of which to be justly proud. I am sure many people will agree with me.—Yours, etc.. DISGUSTED. August 29, 1947.
