SUBSIDY ON CROPS REMOVED
INCREASE IN PRICE OF PIG-MEATS LIKELY Advice that the pig crop subsidy scheme would not be operated in the season was received from the primary industries controllei (Mf R. B. Tennent) at a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury District Pig Council last eveningin a letter to the council. Mr Tennent said that this step was in keeping with the Government’s decision to eliminate farm subsidies as far as practicable. ‘’Your council should make known the fact that the subsidy will be discontinued,” said Mr Tennent. “To avoid possible repercussions on pie production, the following points should be included in the announcement: ‘♦(1) A opmpensating increase in n c^ of Pig-meats likely to be made. ’(2) It is still vital to the maintenance of pig riroduction that farmers produce as mtfeh winter food for their pigs ag possible, because imported feeding-stuffs will not be available in any great quantity next winter.”
