EDUCATIONAL WEEK
VISIT OF COUNTRY GIRLS The Country Girls*' Educational week, organised by the North Canterbury Provincial executive of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, will open in Christchurch on Monday and will be attended by about 40 country girls. These gatherings proved very popular in North Canterbury some years ago, but were discontinued during the war. The sponsors, who are now reviving the movement, find that there are not as many country girls as there were in pre-war days who are able to avail themselves of this educational course, but nevertheless they are well pleased with this year’s response and have arranged an interesting and varied programme for the visitors. The official opening will be held on Monday morning at the Little Theatre, Canterbury University College, after the girls have assembled at the college cafeteria and been entertained at morning tea. Demonstrations, travel talks and lectures, some illustrated by films, will be given on Monday and the three following days, and visits will be paid to the Botanic Gardens, the Karitane hospital, and various factories, vrith a bus trip along the Summit road on Tuesday and an evening party at the Normal School hall on Thursday. Friday will be a free day for the visitors.
