APPLICANTS FOR R.N.Z.A.F-
SELECTION BOARD HOLDS SITTING Twenty-five applicants for posts in the R.N.Z.A.F. were interviewed by a visiting selection board in an all-day sitting in Christchurch yesterday. The board comprised Squadron Leader A. T. Giles, an engineering officer who was formerly officer commanding technical training at Hobsonville, and Flight Lieutenant E. W. Parry, an education officer on the staff of the Air Department. The board is seeking tradesmen, who must have a certain standard of education, and is particularly interested in youths who may be too old to begin learning a trade in civil life, but who would be of use in one of the various air force trades. All interviews given yesterday were pre-arranged, and lasted up to half an hour. A number of older men seeking positions as stewards and mess hands also came before the board, which has another full programme today. Candidates are being offered opportunities to join the service .for periods ranging from two to eight years, with possible extensions. To-morrow the board will conduct a third series of interviews arranged by the adjutant of the Air Training Corps (Flying Officer Gordon), before leaving .Christchurch.
