AUSTRALIAN DRAFT FOR JAPAN
TROOPSHIP ARRIVES AT AUCKLAND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 27. ‘What’s the beer like, mate?” was the first question addressed to people on the wharf by members of the Australian forces in the transport Kanimbla, which arrived from Australia to .-day on her way to Japan. The ship will leave to-morrow afternoon with 150 New Zealanders for J Force. Aboard the Kanimbla is the Chief of the Australian General Staff (Lieuten-ant-General V. A. H.- Sturdee), who left by air for Wellington. He will return by air to-morrow morning. Among the passengers are 22 Australian businessmen who will investigate reopening trade between Australia and Japan.
