ALTERATIONS TO BUILDINGS
PENSIONERS’ SETTLEMENT AT BURNHAM It was hoped to have the necessary alterations completed in time lor the pensioners to be in residence before Christmas, said the Minister of Health (Miss M. B. Howard) after she visited Burnham with departmental officers on Monday to discuss alterations to the buildings there which will be used as homes for pensioners. The housing position for pensioners in New Zealand was bad, and in some places pensioners were living in whares and huts in backyards, said Miss Howard. She was anxious to see the scheme at Burnham started as soon as possible.
