Two Calls to Fires.— At 12.14 p.m. yesterday, the Christchurcn Central Fire Brigade received a call to a grass fire at 22 North parade New Brighton, on premises occupied by Charles Wil‘iam Peck. The fire, which had been started by a spark from a rubbish fire nearby, was quickly extinguished. The fire brigade also answered a call, at 4 53 p.m.. to a chimney fire at 60 Rose street, on premises occupied by Robert Cuthbert Sparrow. There was no damage done in either case. Aeroplane Turns Back.— Because of poor visibility in the Nelson district, the service aeroplane which left Hokitika yesterday morning for Wellington returned to Hokitika. The aeroplane was within a few miles of the airport at Nelson when it had to return. It carried four passengers from Greymouth, three being for Wellington.
