CORAL PRINCESS

A LIKELY IMPROVER Coral Princess attracted attention to her prospects in the £lOOO Metropolitan Stakes of one mile and five furlongs for four-year-olds at Addington this week by her performance in the Islington Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Driven by her trainer, J. B. Pringle. Coral Princess, which races in the interests of Mr A. Todd, began smoothly from the 12 yards mark to follow Expensive, Stat shell, Appreciate, Horatio Nelson. Trevathan. Symetra, and Maudeen when the field settled down. Coral Princess gradually improved her position to be in fourth place to Maudeen, Horatio Nelson, and Appreciate with a mile covered, and with four furlongs to go she was following Maudeen and Expensive. Coral Princess weakened over the concluding stages of the tace and she was beaten out of a place. With the benefit of the race, she should be an improved mare and she should be capable of registering fast time over the shorter distance in the Metropolitan Stakes on Saturday. A speedy pacer with a record of three wins and eight minor placings to her credit last season. Coral Princess is by a smart performer in Pacing Power from Lilian Bond, which is the dam of another winner in Free Bond. Lilian Bond, which was bred by Mr G. McMillan. Auckland, is by Worthy Bond from Yenot, the dam of a brilliant pacer in Parisienne, which took a two-mile record of 4min 15 3-ssec. Jottings Grand Scott, an attractive youngster by U Scott from Pamelus, lost his chance when he broke at the start of the Canterbury Three-year-old Sakes at Addington on Saturday. Our Jackie, the winner of the Parawai Handicap at the Thames Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, is a five-year-old gelding by Swordsman from Myrtle Oro, which was successful at the pacing gait. By Rey de Oro, Myrtle Oro, which was bred by Mr W. Hosking, Waiuku, is out of Myrtlene, by Peter Moko from Cluster, by Ghoai from Myrtle Grove.

Trusty Scott was never a possibility after breaking at the start of the Lightning Free-tor-All at Addington. Jimmy Scott showed a lot of speed to finish in third place in the Intermediate Handicap at Addington on Saturday after losing ground in the early stages. He may soon win a race for Mr R. Darrah, for whom he is trained by W. R. Butt, at Templeton. Finished Fourth

Dillondale, the second favourite for the Speedway Handicap at Addington on Saturday, started slowly from the scratch mark, and when the field settled 1 down he was following Sprayman, Worthy Gold, Belhall, Radical, Gold Sheik, Stimulant, Alcazar, and Ribbon Again. Edwards moved Dillondale up to challenge, the leaders approaching the entrance to the straight, but he could not make any impression on Worthy Gold, Radical, and Sorayman over the last furlong. To Race Again

The injury which Believe Me received to his leg during the running of the Hutt Park Handicap at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting on June 7 has responded to treatment and the son of Quite Sure and Biddy Parrish is now back in work in P. P. Gallagher’s team at Washdyke. Disappointed On the strength of his easy win in his heat at the matinee meeting at Addington last week. Paddy Potts was sent out forth favourite on the win machine in the Heathcote Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Aodington on Saturday. The Jack Potts gelding looked well when he paraded in the preliminary, but he never appeared as a possibility in the race after breaking and losing a lot of ground at the start. At Hinds

D. Townley’s team at Hinds Includes a good-looking two-year-old gelding by Rir.gtrue from a winner in Fernbrook Lass which took a record of 4min 23 3-ssec. By Author Dillon, Fernbrook Lass is out of Locanda Queen, by Brent Locanda from Imperial Princess, by Prince Imperial from Problem, by Specification. Solid Display

Driven by his trainer, W. J. Doyle, Rerewaka gave a solid display ‘of trotting to finish in third place to Pardon Me and Willie Winkie in the Stewards’ Handicap at Addington on Saturday, and, on this performance, he should prove a profitable proposition for Mr F. E. Graham this season. A brother to a useful performer in Bomber, Rerewaka, which was bred at Port Levy by Mr A. E. Williams, is by Quite Sure from Bonnie Rere, by Guy Carbine from Amy Audubon, the dam of winners at the pacing gait in Pamelus and Air Crew. Attractive Pacer

A. Purdon, who recently set up as a public, trainer at Riccarton, is working Freestyle and a Grattan Loyal gelding. A smart pacer by Blaydon from Elie de Oro, Freestyle showed his best form last season to finish in second place to Volodale in the third division of the Hapuku Handicap at the Kaikoura Trotting Club’s meeting on May 24. Now a four-year-old, Freestyle is a sensible type, and he should soon win a race.

Returning to Form Highland Scott, a good winner for Mr R. A. McKenzie in the 1945-46 season, showed signs of returning to his best form when he finished in fifth place in the Winter Handicap at Addington on Saturday. Foaled in 1936, Highland Scott is a well-bred gelding by U. Scott from the Rey de Oro mare, Rustic Maid, which left a family of winners, including Gallant Maid, Scottish Lady, Scottish Lord, and Slavonic.

By Gold Bar Flinders Bar, the winner of the Kerepeehi Handicap at the Thames Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, is a four-year-old gelding by Gold Bar from Midshipmaid, which left a winner in Sand Maid to Sandydale. Can Trot Fast

After breaking at the start of the Intermediate Handicap at Addington on Saturday, Golden Amazon had 12 horses in front of him when he settled down to trot, but once he was properly balanced he showed a lot of ability to eventually finish in fourth place to Betty Maxegin, Royal Dale, and Jimmy Scott. By Quite Sure from Great Amazon, Golden Amazon, which is trained for Mr C. Pateman by F. G. Holmes, should win a race the first time he leaves the mark correctly. Returned Home

Liebestraum and Baby Grand, which raced at Addington on Saturday in the interests of the Auckland trainer, C. S. Over, were sent home yesterday. A promising colt by Josedale Grattan from Lady Denise, Liebestraum raced greenly in the Canterbury Three-year-old Stakes, but he should develop into a good winner with age and experience. Baby Grand, a fast pacer by Lusty Volo from Mountain Jewel, marred his effort in the Islington Handicap by making a mistake at the start. Encouraging

Leonin gave an encouraging display at his first appearance since being trained at Templeton by C. R. Berkett for Messrs S. Todd and M. Nelson to finish in third place to Maudeen and Notus in the Islington Handicap in the smart time of 4min/23 2-ssec from a 4min 36sec mark.
