MILITARY OBJECTIVES PARAMOUNT
“PRINCIPAL JOB STILL TO MAKE BOMBS” (Rec. 10.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 23. “The principal object of atomic research is to produce military rather than industrial' developments,” said the chairman of the United States Atomic Energy Commission (Mr David Lilienthal), at a press conference.
“Although the uses are hard to separate, our principal job now and for some time to come is to produce atomic bombs. The working emphasis at all atomic energy plants is on production for military use—in other words, for national d rence. Any other peace-time purposes are secondary.”
