increase in wage RATES Giving effect to the standard wage pronouncement made by the Arbitration Court on August 15, the Court Jjas issued amendments to eight awards in terms of the pronounceinent. The minimum wage for furniture workers has been increased to 3s 7d an hour, for wire mattress makers to 3s old. and for spring workers and spring-seat-form makers to 3s 2Jd. 'Workers over 21 will receive not less than 3s 2d for any unskilled work.: Youths under 16 will start at 22s 6d with half-yearly increases to £4 13s at the end of the fifth year. Male boot repairers are to receive I 3s 7d an hour or may enter an agree- , ment for a weekly wage of £6 17s 6d.; Adult females are to receive £5 7s a week. In the Canterbury Storemen and Backers’ Award storemen and packers over the age of 21 years will be paid not less than £6 10s 6d a week. In stores where one storeman is employed and he is solely responsible for inward and outward goods he will be paid not less than £6 13s 2d a week. A head storeman is a storeman employed regularly in charge of other workers. If in charge of two or more workers, other than casuals-, and up to five such workers, he will be paid 10s a week extra: if in charge of more than five, the extra rate will be £1 a week. Permission 'is given for youths to be employed at rates not less than £1 Ils 6d a week for those under 16 years of age, rising to £4 13s for those between the ages of 20 and 21 years. Workers employed for less than one week shall be deemed to be casuals and shall be paid not less than 3s 4£d an hour. When casual labour is employed a minimum of four hours wages will be paid.
