VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON. August 24. Yesterday morning his Excellency the Governor-General received RearAdmiral G. E. Creasy, Flag Officer (Air), Far East. Later his Excellency returned the call on board H.M.S. Theseus. Yesterday afternoon their Excellencies were present at the Chatham Cup final between Wellington Waterside and Christchurch Technical College Old Boys. Last evening his Excellency met members of the Old Contemptibles’ Association, on the occasion of their annual dinner.

This morning, his Excellency inspected divisions on board the Theseus. Subsequently, the Governor-General, with Lady Freyberg, attended divine service on board.

Senior-Sergeant A. E. Kearton, who has been in charge of the Waimate Police Station for the last two years, has received notice of his transfer to the Central Police Station, Christchurch. He will be succeeded at Waimate by Sergeant G. S. Devenport, district clerk at the Central Police Station, Dunedin. Mr C. Edgar Smith, plant engineer for the South Island, has resigned from the Public Works Department to enter a construction company. His headquarters will be Dunedin. On Friday, Mr Smith was given a presentation at the plant -office at Sockburn, officials from the Canterbury district office and elsewhere attending to express regret that Mr Smith was leaving the department. In his reply, Mr Smith referred to his happy relations with all officers and men. A graduate of the School of Engineering at Canterbury University College, Mr Smith was for some years an engineer to the Ouse Catchment Board in England. On returning to New Zealand 12 years ago, he joined tHe Public Works Department as an engineer at Temuka, and was later engineer-in-charge of the Rangitata diversion race. He was engaged on many important defence works during the war.
