TRIAL MATCH AT GREYMOUTH
E., WALKER PLAYS WELL FOR WEST COAST-BULLER From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH, Aug. 24. A West Coast-Buller combined team beat Nelson-Marlborough-Golden BayMotueka in a representative trial matcTi at Greymouth, before only a fair attendance, by 18 points to 10. The first spell produced fast and interesting play, but there was only a ragged forward effort until late in the second spell. E. Walker (West Coast) was the outstanding back on the field while F. Hegglun, who was changed from the pack in the visitors’ side to second five-eighths, also played an outstanding game. R. Eastgate and W. Mumm played brilliantly in the West Coast-Buller pack. Tries were scored for the winning team by Dickson, Rea, Eastgate, and W. Mumm. Lindbom converted one try and kicked a orilliant field goal from 40 yards out. Hegglun and Brigg scored for the visitors, and J. Morton kicked a field goal.
WELLINGTON CLUB WINS TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 23. Wellington, which won the senior Rugby championship, completed the “double” for the season by winning the National Mutual Cup on Saturday, beating Old Boys by 16 points to 7.
HAWKE’S BAY DRAWS WITH TARANAKI
(P.A.) DANNEVIRKE, Aug. 23. Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay played a ■tirawn game, each side scoring x three points. Both scores came in the first spell. Half an hour after the start, Byrne scored a try for Taranaki, and shortly before half-time Chapman kicked a penalty goal for. Hawke’s Bay. Taranaki should have won, having had
the better of the game. Near the end, Byrne missed an easy penalty kick from in front of the goal-posts.
