Illiteracy in British Army.—“An appalling number of illiterate and semiilliterate men are entering the Army,” baid the British War Secretary (Mr F. J. Bellenger) at a passing-out parade of cadets at the Army School of Education at Drymen. “There will have to be a higher standard of teaching and discipline among all sections of the population, including teachers, if we are to produce a generation that , can uphold the conditions we all dei sire. —London, August 23.
