TRADES COUNCIL CONFERENCE
BUDGET AND WAGES QUESTIONS
MINISTER OF LABOUR INVITED
The Arbitration Court’s standard wage pronouncement, the reduction of subsidies, and the proposed amendment to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act to provide for secret ballots on strike action are among subjects that will be discussed at a conference convened by the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council for August 31. Other questions set down for discussion are the Budget and aid to Britain.
The conference will last all day, and invitations have been sent to all delegates to the council, to all affiliated unions, and to organisations not affiliated to the Federation of Labour.
Invitations are being sent to all Labour members of Parliament in Canterbury, including the Minister of Labour (Mr A. McLagan), who, it was hoped, will speak briefly to the conference.
