CAMPAIGN FOR ROAD SAFETY
EDUCATING PEDESTRIANS AND MOTORISTS
As part of the national road safety campaign now being conducted by the Junior Chambers of Commerce, inspectors of the Christchurch City Council’s traffic department will undertake next week the task of educating all sections of the public in road courtesy and road safety. On Monday the inspectors will concentrate on the education and surveillance of cyclists, and on Tuesday and Wednesday they will deal with pedestrians and motorists. Pedestrians and cyclists will be dealt with on Thursday, and there will be a general check on all road users on Friday. The road safety campaign will end on August 30. and on August 29 there will be a procession through the city, starting at 7 p.m. The procession will start from Cambridge terace, and will pass through Cathedral square and along the main streets. It will include members of the Canterbury Auto-Cycle Club and the Pioneer Sports Club on motor-cycles, cars belonging to the Vintage Vehicles Club at Canterbury University College, a St. John Ambu lance Association ambulance, and two bands Safety-first posters and slogans will be carried in the procession. To-morrow evening the Canterbury Junior Chamber of Commerce has arranged a free screening of road safety films at the Plaza Theatre. Films have been supplied by the Transport Department, General Motors Ltd., and the film distributors.
