CANTERBURY TITLES CONTESTED
FINALS TO BE PLAYED THIS EVENING
Many good contests, particularly In the men’s singles, have been seen in the Canterbury table tennis championships, which are being played in Christchurch this week. The remaining finals will be played this evening. An interesting match was that between A. R. Algie and the well-known tennis player, A. D. Brown, in the quarter-hnais of the open singles championship. Brown took the first game and extended Algie in the second, but Algie won the next two fairly comfortably. L. Muirson held T. R. D. Flint, Canterbury runner-up last year, to five games. The only completed event, the girls’ singles, was won by Miss B. Packwood. Results of advanced stages in the championships were as follows: Men’s Singles Championship (quarterfinals).—A. R. Algie beat A. D. Brown, 19- 24-22 , 21-17, 21-16 i J. J. Borough beat M. Marshall, 21-12, 21-9, 21-14; T. R. D. Flint beat L. Muirson, 21-12, 21-14. 20- 20-22, 21-17; S. A. Bremford beat D. Meier, 23-21, 21-15, 23-21. Men’s Doubles (third round).—A. B. McCallum and R. L. Pattinson beat H. Knott and E. Baynton, 21-12, 21-13, 21-11; J. J. Borough and J. Philpott beat J. A. Adam and E. White, 21-16, 21-13, 21-11; A. D. Brown and D. Meier beat W. Taylor and R. Bee, 21-6, 21-17, 17-21, 21-19; A. P. Clapshaw and D. I. Gray beat Hitchcock and N. McGillivray, 21-14, 18-21, 21-14, 17-21. 21-14.
Women’s Singles (third round). —Mrs M. Dennis beat Miss B. Packwood, 21-10, 1721, 21-16; Miss W. Dryden beat Mrs J. Clapshaw, 21-12, 21-11; Miss W. Waddick beat Miss J. Derbidge, 21-10, 21-13; Miss A. Peppier beat Miss F. Rooney, 17-21, 21-6, 21-7.

Boys’ Singles (semi-finals). —N. W. McGillivray beat P. Fearon, 21-8, 21-14; J. A. Harliwich beat B. Hitchcock, 21-8, 21-17. Girls’ Singles (semi-finals). —Miss D. Senior beat Miss P. O’Connor, 21-16. 16-21, 21-18; Miss B. Packwood beat Miss J. Derbidge. 21-16, 21-12. Final: Miss Packwood beat Miss D. Senior, 21-10, 21-17.
