ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN
Sir,—l agree with “Motorist” that high fences and hedges at corners should be removed, as these are a worry to car drivers. Speeding and careless driving are, I consider, among the main causes of road accidents. Almost daily someone is killed through careless driving and speeding. In America, if a motorist runs down and kills someone, he is forced by law to walk into the morgue and look at his victim. Why not adopt this punishment here? They get off very easily here. They are not often fined or yet gaoled. In my opinion the quickest way to avoid road accidents would be to have it made compulsory to have all cars governed down to a moderate speed, and kept so.—Yours, etc., C. LAWSON. August 20, 1947.
