Ar assuiance was given by the “Aid to Britain' conference to-day that if the recommendation for increased film hue tax v as approved, the tax would nn dffeci American films already in the. country The question was raised by Mi R. K Stewart, representing the Motion Picture Distributors’ Association. when a proposal to raise the hire tax irom 25 per cent, to 40 per cent. w-i« being considered. Wnen Great Britain increased the ta> on American films, one condition was that those films already in the cour> try should be excluded, said Mr St«wart. If New Zealand adopted a different method the result might be inju ous .c Great Britain, whose films w: re regarded highly in the United States
