GREEK-ITALIAN RELATIONS
MEETING OF FOREIGN MINISTERS “DEFENSIVE ALLIANCE SOUGHT ’’ (Special Correspondent N.ZJ»_A.) (Rec. 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 22. "On his way back to Greece alter a two months' mission to the United States, the Greek Foreign Minister (Mr Tsaldaris) discussed Italian-Greek relations with the Italian Foreign Minister (Count Sforza)." says the Athens correspondent of the “News Chronicle.” ‘This is a further move in efforts to form a defensive Greek-Turkish-Italian alliance against the Soviet's Balkan satellites.
“The move has Washington’s blessing and may be extended to include Persia and the Arab League States. “It is officially stated in Athens that Greece and Italy may resume diplomatic relations without waiting for the formal ratification af the Italian peace treaty.”
The correspondent describes the reactions of the Greek press, with the exception of the E.A.M. and Communists. as “favourable to the point of jubilation."
