AMBULANCE FLIGHT IN VAIN
DEATH OF RAROTONGAN STOREKEEPER “The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, August 3. An effort to save the life of a Rarotongan, Mr John Taripo, by flying him 2547 nautical miles for admission to the Auckland Hospital to receive treatment for a head infection proved in vain. Mr Taripo underwent an operation, but failed to rally, and died. Two aeroplanes belonging to the Royal New Zealand Air Force were used in succession to rush the patient from Rarotonga to Auckland, where he arrived last week. The flight was arranged by the Island Territories Department. Mr Taripo, a 50-year-old storekeeper, who is survived by his wife and four sons and a daughter, will be buried at Rarotonga.
