AWARD FOR BREWERY WORKERS

« INCREASES IN PAY

Wage increases up to 5s a week are announced in a new award for brewery and bottling-house workers, which has ‘ been approved by the Court of Arbitration. Agreement was reached in Conciliation Council, and the assessors made the following statement: “The increases agreed upon should be taken into account in the event of the Court’s granting an increase Jcllowing an application lodged under the Economic Stabilisation Emergency Regulations and dealt with in the near future.” Shift workers will receive 4Jd an hour in addition to their ordinary wage instead of 2s 9d a shift. The minimum rotes for coopers will be £6 10s a week'; for headers, £6 2s ,6d a week; and for all other workers, £6 a week. These are increases of 5s a week, which youths

and senior female workers will also be paid.

New clauses in the award, which will be in force until January 28. 1949. provide for transport allowances and the supply cf tools to coopers, or the payment of Id extra an hour instead.
