AUCKLAND MAYORALTY
SIR ERNEST DAVIS NOT TO STAND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 3. An announcement that he did not intend to accept nomination as a candidate for the Auckland mayoralty was made by Sir Ernest Davis in a letter which has teen received by the chairman of the Auckland Citizens’ and Ratepayers’ Association (Mr J. B. Donald). Sir Ernest Davis explained that his willingness to receive a deputation from the association had been interpreted as an indication of his acceptance of candidature. The deputation did not eventuate, and the opportunity of expressing any decision did not arise. Accordingly he was surprised to read an announcement of his "consent."
