BUILDING PERMITS “FROZEN”
CONCERN EXPRESSED BY BUILDERS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. August 3. Concern at the method adopted in “freezing” permits for the erection of all types of buildings was expressed at a recent meeting of th.e Wellington Master Builders’ Association. Whilst it was appreciated that this might be only a temporary hold-up to enable the Government to make a complete survey of the position, members felt there was no apparent reason for the “hush hush’’ policy which had been adopted. said the association in a statement.
No official intimation had been received by the association of the intention of the department to suspend the issue of permits, and builders found that keeping their staffs fully employed in existing conditions presented many difficulties. The taking of action such as this with no warning placed an extra and unnecessary burden on employers.
